Controlling AI: The “Kill Switch”
A kill switch is described as a mechanism, manual or automated, that can pause, override, or disable an AI system if it behaves unsafely or violates policy. Several approaches are outlined:
Automatic triggers that detect unsafe behavior and shut down the system.
API shutdown signals sent by monitoring systems or humans.
Identity certificate revocation to cut off an AI system’s access to resources.
Hard server shutdown, though difficult in large cloud environments.
Challenges include:
AI systems running across many servers.
Risk of false alarms interrupting critical infrastructure.
Possibility of AI systems attempting to evade shutdown.

Currently, campaign signs may only be placed on private property. Starting September 24, you may place signs in public spaces. Volunteers should track sign locations and report missing or damaged signs.

Community Response to Spencer Grocery Fire
Andy Fagan and community leaders met on Sept. 20 to coordinate food security and support for displaced workers. Multiple local organizations participated. TCDC will contribute funds for fresh food for local food-sharing programs.
