National Coming Out Day and LGBTQIA+ Visibility
National Coming Out Day promotes visibility and acceptance for LGBTQIA+ individuals by encouraging them to live openly. Visibility helps dismantle ignorance and homophobia, offering role models, especially for youth. It's up to us to build a community for LGBTQIA+ people, allies, and supportive organizations to affirm that everyone deserves to live and love freely.
No Kings Rally - Standing Against Authoritarianism
The No Kings Rally (October 18, 2025, Owego) is a response to the Trump administration’s authoritarian actions and constitutional violations and administrative actions seen as threats to democracy, civil rights, and public welfare. Everyone is encouraged to stand in solidarity against the federal government's disregard for due process, the use of excessive force against peaceful demonstrators, unlawful arrests and searches, and the misuse of the U.S. military against citizens.
Government Shutdown and the Fight for Health Care
Democrats continue to oppose the Republican-led government shutdown, refusing to pass the rescission budget without firm commitments on health care. Rising Medicare premiums and the looming end of Affordable Care Act subsidies could cause health care costs to surge up to 75%, and Medicaid cuts would devastate hospitals and patients alike. While Republicans left Washington, Democrats stayed to negotiate, signaling their commitment to protecting affordable health care for all Americans.
