Election Results & 2026 Outlook
Several Democrats won local offices in Tioga County for the first time in decades, including Jo Ellen Rose (first Democratic legislator in 30 years) and Emily McClintock (first Democratic Owego council member in 20 years).
Seven Democratic candidates ran overall, showing increasing momentum for the county party. Thank you, candidates and supporters, for the work, time, and money you dedicated to these races.
The Newark Valley Supervisor race remains undecided; Kathleen Grant leads by two votes.
Planning for 2026 elections should begin now, with petition season starting in February. Offices up for election include Governor, Lt. Governor, State Senate, State Assembly, and federal Congressional seats. Both a Democratic and a Republican primary could occur in NY23.
The Economy Is Not Better
A significant share of Americans reports financial struggle: 27% are barely getting by or struggling.
Public perception of the economy remains negative: 74% rate it as fair or poor.
Inflation (3% in 2025) is driven largely by housing and medical costs.
Federal budget proposals include large cuts to HUD, Medicaid, and Medicare, alongside a major deficit increase.
How Long Does It Take to Become a U.S. Citizen?
Early 1900s naturalization was simpler; citizenship often took under 10 years.
Today, family-based visa timelines vary widely—from relatively quick for spouses/children to decades-long waits for some categories (e.g., Mexican siblings waiting since 2001).
Modern immigration and citizenship pathways are lengthy and complex, and recent federal policies have further burdened both legal and undocumented immigrants.
