A Growing GOP Resistance?

The recent revelations about a lethal U.S. military strike on a Caribbean fishing boat, with reports of survivors killed in a second attack, have sparked bipartisan concern and plans for Senate oversight. At the same time, Republicans are pushing back against Trump’s foreign policy, criticizing his joint peace plan with Putin for Ukraine, his approach to the Israel-Gaza and Iran conflicts, and his proposal to use tariff revenue for $2,000 payments to Americans rather than reducing the national debt.

AI policy is also dividing conservatives, as Trump advances the ambitious Genesis Mission while critics warn of risks and lawmakers introduce bipartisan oversight legislation. Domestically, Trump’s pressure on red states to redraw congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterms has caused internal party friction, and his desire to eliminate the filibuster and the blue slip tradition faces strong opposition from Republican leaders.

Corruption and the Billionaire President

A recent New Yorker article details how Trump and his family have profited extensively during his presidency through international real-estate ventures, luxury gifts, cryptocurrency schemes, and branded merchandise, prompting concerns that business payments may function as political payoffs. Estimates of Trump’s wealth, ranging from $6-10 billion, are difficult to verify due to fluctuating assets and opaque investments, leaving watchdogs convinced he has normalized using public office for personal gain.

Critics argue that limited congressional scrutiny, resistance to ethics reforms, and Trump’s replacement of inspectors general have created an environment where potentially improper deals proliferate without accountability, forming a sprawling, largely untraceable political-business enterprise whose full scope may not be understood for years.
