Leg Act News Highlights

June 23 Democratic Primary - Get Out the Vote!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Town Hall to meet Aaron Gies! Please talk to your family, friends, and neighbors and encourage them to vote for Aaron in the Democratic Primary.

  • Canvassing - Every little bit helps! Contact Joan at tioganydems@gmail.com for lists and rack cards! Candidates Aaron Gies and Tom DiNapoli are endorsed by TCDC.

  • Read the Ballot: Please vote for one candidate for Comptroller and one candidate for the NY23 Congressional primary race.

  • If you usually vote by mail, make sure you know that you need to register for your ballot every election. Contact your county Board of Elections or go to this link: Request a Ballot - Early Mail or Absentee Ballot to have a ballot mailed to you. The last day to request a ballot online for the June 23 primary is June 14. If you are mailing your request, remember the post office has been slower with mail. Submit your request as soon as possible, and do not delay in mailing your ballot back.

  • If you do not have transportation to the early voting site (Tioga County Board of Elections, 1062 State Route 38, Owego) for the primary (June 13-21), please email Tioganydems@gmail.com.

  • Visit 866OURVOTE.org. Make a voting plan for both the primary (June 13-21) and the November election. Make sure you are registered. If you get to the polls and a problem is stopping you from voting, ask for a provisional ballot and follow up with the Board of Elections and 866OURVOTE.org.

The New York Health Act

  • The New York Health Act, introduced in the 1990s, aims for universal health coverage but faces opposition from public-sector unions and private insurers.

  • Amendments seek to protect current benefits for public-sector workers and address concerns about provider reimbursement.

  • The Act would eliminate private insurers for most services, but some coverage, like cosmetic procedures, may remain private.

  • If you have questions, please send them to FNPMAF1@gmail.com. Be familiar with the act and let folks know you support it and hope they can support it too.

Legislative Actions

  • A one-year moratorium on data centers in NYS is pending signature; first in the nation.

  • Call Gov. Hochul at 518 - 474-8390, or email - go to www.governor.ny.gov. Encourage her to sign the moratorium on data centers.
