Pluralism and Democratic Principles
Pluralism involves power-sharing among diverse groups, promoting autonomy and preventing dominance by any single faction. Civic engagement is vital for maintaining a healthy democracy, especially as interest groups and money influence legislation through Super PACs and corporate spending, often overshadowing individual voices. Overcoming gridlock may involve ballot initiatives, but true progress requires rewriting policies, addressing legal issues, and ensuring the people lead societal direction through voting and civic involvement.
Environmental and Forest Policy under Trump
Trump’s administration has taken nearly 70 actions to weaken environmental protections, including fast-tracking logging, mining, and drilling in national forests, reducing public participation, and relocating the Forest Service headquarters. These moves threaten forest health, wildfire management, and biodiversity, with significant cuts to forest management staff and research facilities. These policies prioritize corporate profits over ecological health, risking habitat destruction, pollution, and increased wildfire risks amid climate change. Environmental groups warn that dismantling protections and restructuring the Forest Service undermines effective land stewardship.
Action Alerts/Events
TCDC encourages participation in local and national issues, including supporting New York State’s budget proposals, advocating for transparency in investigations like the Epstein files, opposing ICE funding cuts, and promoting environmental activism.

Visit Alt National Park on Facebook. Look for companies that could lobby against the restructuring of our Forest Service and against the environmental impacts of logging and mining our natural resources. For example, Patagonia has expressed dismay over these executive orders. Call to thank them and find other companies you can encourage to support ecology.
